PAN Europe challenged the European Commission's six-year extension of approval of the fungicide Dimoxystrobin. The General Court of the EU ruled that Member States are required to demand toxicity data for co-formulants used in pesticides. The European Commission should establish similar data requirements to those for active substances.
The current policy to phase out synthetic dyes from food products is voluntary. FDA has set a timeline for replacing them by the end of this year (2026). Some companies have taken steps to replace them, others have successfully transitioned all of their manufactured products. Some of the largest food companies haven't even made official commitments at all.
Several blocks in Garden Grove were evacuated as toxic chemicals spewed into the air from a leaking storage tank at an aerospace company. The company creates acrylic plastics for the aerospace industry. Greenhouse gas emissions from rice paddies have nearly doubled globally since the 1960s. Rice-growing is the largest emissions source in agriculture outside of livestock. Farmers have ways to reduce their rice crops’ emissions without lowering their yields. If every grower used the best currently available “climate-smart” options, rice emissions could be reduced by about 10% by midcentury.
Three people have died and 18 first responders were quarantined after being exposed to an unknown substance at a rural residence in New Mexico on Wednesday. The cause of the incident is suspected to be a drug overdose involving unknown substance. The majority of the exposed emergency personnel showed no lasting symptoms and were eventually discharged, but three symptomatic patients remain under close monitoring.
Abuelito Cheese Inc. admitted to introducing adulterated queso fresco into interstate commerce. Its products were linked to a February 2021 outbreak of listeriosis that resulted in at least 13 hospitalizations and one death across four states. Sentencing is scheduled for October 15, 2026.
Straus Family Creamery has issued a voluntary recall of certain ice cream flavors in 17 states due to the potential presence of metal. The ice cream products have been on shelves since May 4. The company has temporarily halted production to repair the production line. Customers who bought the recalled products should throw them out.

Two people remain in the hospital, one has been released. Mayor Peter Nieto said he spotted drugs at the home, but did not say what type.
