Two days later, he developed symptoms consistent with E. coli infection, including nausea, vomiting, severe fatigue and bloody diarrhea. On April 6, he went to the hospital and was diagnosed with hemolytic uremic syndrome, a life-threatening blood vessel condition. He required dialysis and blood transfusions and suffered seizures and decreased pancreatic function. The whole genome sequencing linked his illness to the outbreak strain associated with Theebab Shop. The company is cooperating with public health officials and has voluntarily stopped sales of grilled meat at all locations since May 18.

Death toll rises to 11 in Washington tank explosion as all nine missing recovered

The death toll from a chemical tank rupture in the US state of Washington climbed to 11 as crews recovered the bodies of all nine missing people. Two fatalities had been confirmed after the tank containing “white liquor” – a chemical solution of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide used in making paper pulp – imploded at a Nippon Dynawave Packaging facility on Tuesday. The search for the missing carried on through the week.
