The World Food Programme (WFP) supplies schoolchildren in Afghanistan with fortified biscuits. Getting the supplies into the country is a logistical minefield. The supplies are first sent by boat to the southern Pakistani port of Karachi. The original plan was for the shipment to be transferred to trucks for a 7,000 km trip through Pakistan, but tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan closed the border. A new land corridor from Dubai to landlocked Afghanistan across the Caucasus is the only solution. It's costlier, more complex and adds 8,000 kilometers to the journey, but it's the only remaining option.
The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively shut for more than 100 days. Global oil supply fell 10.1 million barrels per day in March, with OPEC+ production dropping by 9.4 million barrels a day month-on-month. China has approximately 1.3 billion barrels in storage, drawing it down at around a million barrels every day.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claims Washington has maintained control over the Strait of Hormuz despite regional tensions. US military posture will remain active to ensure Tehran complies with the memorandum of understanding within the next 60 days. Trump said a deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday.
