Map Shows 26 States Suing Trump Administration Over Medicaid Rule

A coalition of 25 states and Washington, D.C. is suing the Trump administration over new Medicaid work requirements they say could cause eligible low-income Americans to lose health coverage. Many of the plaintiff states are Democratic strongholds and electoral bellwethers whose voters have swung between the parties in recent cycles. Six of the states involved in the lawsuit voted for Donald Trump.

St. Joseph's hospital in Chicago suburbs files to permanently shut down pediatric inpatient unit

The Prime Healthcare hospital Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet has filed paperwork with the state of Illinois to permanently close its pediatric inpatient unit. In April of 2025, the hospital temporarily suspended overnight inpatient pediatric care at the 13-bed unit citing low patient volume. The hospital, owned by California-based Prime Healthcare, filed for a permanent discontinuation of those services as of June 29, 2026.

Health Minister Nina Warken in an interview: “It gets emotional very quickly at the clinics”

Madam Minister is still convinced about her austerity package for the health system. There will be a shortfall of around 30 billion euros in the health and nursing care insurance funds next year. The federal government is saving less than expected and the federal subsidy will fall less than initially planned. The additional money for the treatment of basic security recipients next year will be quadrupled.
