Iran attacks ship, shuts Hormuz; US launches fresh strikes as ceasefire frays

Tehran attacked a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz and closed the strategic waterway until further notice. Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps said one of its warning shots had struck a vessel travelling through what it described as an unauthorised route in the strait. The US military identified the vessel as a Cyprus-flagged container ship, saying it suffered "significant engine room damage" and that one civilian crew member remains missing. Iran warned it would consider targeting "additional enemy bases in the region" if further attacks were launched against it. US Central Command said American forces had begun a third round of strikes against Iran.

Hormuz stays shut after US, Iran engage in new bout of strikes

The U.S. Central Command launched strikes on Iran in response to an Iranian attack on a commercial vessel in Hormuz. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Jordan. Iran and the United States agreed to an interim cease-fire on June 17, beginning a 60-day period aimed at reaching a permanent end to the war that began on February 28.
