Kairos Power broke ground on the first advanced nuclear reactor plant in the U.S. in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. It will be operational in 2030. Google runs two data centers in the area. Google signed a development agreement with Kairos for 500 MW from multiple advanced reactors.
A Chinese shipyard has designed a floating, nuclear-powered logistics hub that acts as a container terminal, power station, and green-fuel factory far out at sea. The concept was unveiled at the Posidonia exhibition in Athens. Decarbonisation needs rapid emission cuts, and tweaks will hardly cut it. There is no international rulebook for this innovative concept. Port states and the IMO should designate sovereign-neutral sandboxes in deepwater zones.
Thomas Andrade sells valuable parts of a car to a salvage yard, but he makes no money. He's happy with that, because he's selling valuable minerals. Recycling battery minerals reduces the climate footprint of new vehicle production and eases U.S. reliance on China for those critical minerals. General Motors has a lot of materials that it recycles, including batteries.

It's too hot to cool the fuel rods at three nuclear reactors in France. Eight more reactors were shut down on Sunday. France is experiencing its third heat wave in two months. France gets 70 percent of its electricity from nuclear power. It has 57 nuclear reactors that produce around 70% of the electricity.
The biggest risk to passenger safety these days is not technical defects in the aircraft, but lithium-ion batteries brought along by passengers. The transport of batteries in checked baggage has been strictly prohibited since 2016. ICAO tightened the rules for passengers worldwide, including in Germany, for devices brought into the cabin.
