Gaza: On The Ground with Motasem A Dalloul | Week 08 July

Motasem A Dalloul is a survivor of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. He describes the daily struggle to survive: hunger, cold, the collapse of healthcare, and ongoing Israeli violations despite the so-called ceasefire. MEMO spoke to him in the first of a new series of regular updates from the ground.

Reviving communities home by home in Gaza

During the Israel-Hamas war that started in October 2023, Mayyada and her family were forced to flee their homes multiple times. They moved between schools, temporary shelters and makeshift tents. Now, they are being supported to return closer to their areas of origin through the Gaza Neighbourhood Approach project implemented by the UN Development Programme (UNDP)

‘Cycle of chaos’: Israel killing Gaza civil officials to derail its future

Despite a months-long ceasefire, Israel continues to launch deadly raids across the Palestinian territory. Analysts say Israel's attacks aim to prevent Palestinian recovery, sabotage the Trump plan and pave the way for permanent occupation. The total death toll since October 7, 2023 is 73,233, with 173,707 injured.

Photos: Israeli attacks kill nine people, including two children, in Gaza

At least nine Palestinians were killed by Israeli air attacks and gunfire in Gaza on Wednesday. A six-year-old boy was killed by gunfire in Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City. At least 1,084 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the "ceasefire" took effect in October.

Israel and the new reality of buffer zones

After the war against Iran, Israel's approach to its security is undergoing a significant transformation. Israel no longer relies on international forces, ceasefire agreements, or neighboring governments to keep hostile actors away from its frontier communities. Israel seeks physical depth, direct operational freedom, and the ability to shape the terrain on the other side of the border before threats can be reconstituted. In Lebanon, the same logic is adapted to a different political and military terrain.

Israeli air strikes, shelling and home demolitions continue across Gaza Strip

On Thursday morning, new Israeli attacks were reported in different parts of the Gaza Strip. The previous day, Israeli attacks killed and wounded Palestinians, including displaced people. The tensions continue despite the ceasefire agreement brokered by Arab mediators and the United States.

Power cuts plunge Gaza hospitals into darkness as Israel’s attacks persist

There is a power crisis in Gaza, affecting hospitals already struggling to treat patients. Omar Abu Atwa, a 30-year-old driver, was taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah last month after an explosion shook the street around him. The lights went out, rendering much of the hospital's medical equipment inoperable, so he had to wait six hours for an X-ray. An ongoing blockade on Gaza has resulted in severe shortages of fuel needed for generators, which power life-saving medical equipment at hospitals.

Shelling at night, gunfire by day in Israel's expanding zone of control in Gaza

Israel's military controls nearly 70% of Gaza, according to comments by Israeli leaders and maps. Israel's military has designated an expanding militarized "orange zone" that runs north to south. Aid groups have suspended operations in northern Gaza's orange zone until the situation is fully clarified.

‘We face a new ordeal’: Gaza's search for the dead goes on

Mr. Nabhan is waiting to find the family members during the first months of the first year of his family. He was a father of three children, I had a wife, and I lost them all at the beginning of the beginning. There are a number of people working on the project.

‘Shoot me, Just let my son pass’: Final moments of Palestinian Ahmad Zaid

Ahmad Zaid, 3 months old, died on Sunday after his family was blocked from reaching an ambulance at a West Bank checkpoint by Israeli soldiers. The road between Deir Ammar refugee camp and Ramallah is blocked by a locked Israeli gate. The World Health Organization documented 233 incidents affecting healthcare facilities, workers, and ambulances across the occupied West Bank in 2025.
